2020 Writing Challenge
Kaylee here. I'm starting a blog - as you can see. This blog is going to be a bit different from a normal blog.
Mostly because I was never any good at putting out blog posts on the regular.
Turns out I'm not very good at putting out YouTube videos on the regular either! So, I'm trying something new.
I have a few goals for 2020 - duh. Everyone you know has been mentioning them and talking about them. My goals are simple:
- Write 200,000 words
- Have more days of the year where I was writing vs. not writing
- Attempt to write every single day
The reason I have these goals is because I want to take my writing seriously this year. That's not to say I didn't take it seriously last year, but my actions didn't reflect that. This year, I'm letting my actions speak for themselves.
To give you a glimpse at how my 2019 went, here are some stats (because who doesn't love some good ol' fashioned stats?):
- 146 days spent writing
- 219 days spent not writing
- 129,134 words written for the year
- Biggest writing month - December with 24,225 words
- Smallest writing month - June with 3,816 words
That's where this blog is going to come in. My goal for this blog is to have a living, breathing timeline and history of my writing journey. I'm going to use this as a kind of online journal where I let you know how I did on my writing for the day, what I think about the writing I did, if I didn't get any writing done and why, and a lot more.
This is going to be a no holds bar view at my journey to publishing my stories. At this current point in time, I'm sitting on:
- 1 completed story
- 2 first drafts
- 2 stories wanting to be written (a sci fi story I want to trad publish and a retelling I'm writing as a present)
- 2 more stories in my series that need to be outlined and written
This year, I'd like to complete and publish my series (which is 4 books, plus a prequel) and write first drafts of the sci fi and retelling stories. That's a lot of words! That's a lot of writing. I know I'm taking on a lot. I know it's going to be a hectic year if this is what I want to accomplish, but like I said, I'm going to take this seriously.
So - that's a quick glimpse into where I'm starting 2020. I am going to attempt to post a blog post with a wrap up of my writing every night, but I may end up doing some wrap-up posts. I'll keep you updated. Also, there's going to be a second post tonight, with a wrap up of my writing day for today.
Have a bright and colorful day! Keep Writing!
